I’m going to talk about work now. People ask me, “I want to know what kind of job suits me or what my calling is”. It’s something they can say because they believe they choose their own work. But in reality, it’s the work that calls you.
So, the important thing is how you work. If you’re a blacksmith, you have a blacksmith’s mission. If you’re a greengrocer, you have a greengrocer’s mission. If you’re a farmer, you want people to eat good vegetables. If you’re a greengrocer, you want people to eat vegetables and stay healthy because they shouldn’t just eat meat all the time. And with that sense of mission, you(greengrocer) become someone who wants to feed others no matter what, saying, ‘How about trying this dish?’ or something like that. It’s about having that sense of mission. Humans must have a sense of mission.
When you say, ‘I will do this job with such a purpose,’ and walk towards it, that place is where you made a promise with God. This is called the ‘Promised Land.’ Just by walking towards the Promised Land, people become lively and incredibly bright. They become happy. The face of someone who has started walking towards the Promised Land is completely different from before. A leader is someone who guides and enables others to walk towards the Promised Land and start walking together. So, if you ask what a leader is, their role is to help others reach the place they promised with God. And just by heading towards the Promised Land, people’s faces change. It happens even with just one step.
Work is something that calls a person. Then, once called, they go to the perfect place for them. So, it’s not about you choosing the job; you are called to it. If you find this workplace uninteresting or wonder what your true calling is, it’s not about you selecting the job; you are being called to it. So if you think, “This workplace is boring,” you might be a boring person. Furthermore, even in this uninteresting workplace, you might not be someone who works hard. You might not be putting effort into even these uninteresting, simple jobs. You say there’s not a single interesting person in this company, but perhaps you were called there because you are not interesting either.
If you think, “This is an uninteresting workplace, full of boring people,” please consider that you might be an uninteresting person too. And that’s where you undergo training. So, some people might suggest you should just quit if you don’t like it, but for someone like you who can’t even quit a job you dislike, it’s a perfect workplace. There are things to learn there. That’s why some people leave immediately, while others won’t quit even if everyone else says they should. It means they still have something to learn there.
