[Saito Hitori] The era where people thrive by sharing their wisdom generously

When it comes to taking exams at school, I always say it’s a good idea to show your answers to each other. When we share our answers, everyone ends up with a perfect score. Somehow, there’s always someone who knows the correct answer. When we all share and take the exam together, we all end up with a perfect score, you know? So, I told the principal in Aomori that it’s a good idea for the school to have these kinds of sharing sessions maybe once a month, and they actually implemented it. The students became really close because of that. While the teachers tell the students to get along and not to look at others’ answers during exams, it sometimes creates discord.

In our company, we have a great sense of camaraderie among our 10 employees. Really, yesterday we held a seminar in Fukuoka, and everyone attended. They covered their own travel expenses and we gave a lecture.

So, what am I trying to say? Well, in our company, there are 10 direct disciples of mine, and I’ve taught them everything I know. When people ask, “What did you do?” Michan-sensei said she couldn’t become the company president. But I said it’s okay, even if you can’t, just learn it. I’ll do it. If there’s something you don’t understand, I’ll do it. So, I worked hard on what I could do, and everyone worked hard on what they could do.

That’s why, for people associated with our company, I give them detailed instructions like, “You should distribute flyers like this, and if you encounter any problems, do it like this.” That’s because the people in our company have always been successful because someone who succeeded took the time to teach them. We’ve never really had competition in our company.

And then, we announce the rankings of the top nine in terms of sales. Why do we do that? To let people know who to ask for advice. It’s natural for those at the top to teach those at the bottom. So, it goes in a cycle. The top-ranked person teaches the lower-ranked person, and the lower-ranked person asks the top-ranked person. In reality, this world is like heaven.

People who know should teach those who don’t know, and those who are skilled should do what they are skilled at. It’s as simple as that. The worst thing you can do is to tell someone who can’t do something to “work harder.” If you can’t do it, you can’t do it. That’s just the way it is.

I have a lot of things I can’t do, and a lot of things I can do. Telling someone to be competent at everything is pointless. Humans are forgetful, and there’s no one who’s always competent.

So, in our case, although it might sound strange to say we’re a unique company, most of the people who joined us were just people sitting next to us in a coffee shop. But if you work together wholeheartedly, you can make things happen. Helping each other is the most wonderful thing. Everyone cooperates to teach what they know to each other.

The worst thing is bullying. It’s not right to catch someone for what they can’t do and keep harping on it. Just because someone can’t do something doesn’t mean they’re foolish. Do you think God gave you that talent to make fun of others? Having such talent means it’s a gift from God, not your own effort. Do you think God gave you that talent just to make fun of people? It’s impossible. So, teach what you know and ask about what you don’t.

That’s all I believe in. Our small company, with people who gathered together as amateurs, is able to participate in the annual tax ranking now. Everyone took one step at a time, and we never rushed. Because I’m confident I can walk to Osaka, but I’m not confident I can run there. I’d collapse before I even reach the nearest train station if I tried to run. But I can walk. So, everyone should walk too. Don’t tell your friends to work hard. Instead, tell them, “I have the wisdom you don’t, so feel free to use it.” Say thank you, and if you can’t return the favor in this life, do it in the next. If you can’t do it in the next life, do it in the one after that. So, there’s no need to rush. Everyone should contribute their abilities, teach each other, learn what they don’t know, and grow together.

This world has been a treasure trove since God created it. If you go to the Amazon jungle, you’ll find fruits falling to the ground without anyone eating them. There’s enough fruits like that there to feed the entire world. Even with oil, they used to say it would run out in 30 years, but now they say it’ll last another 40 years. The remaining time keeps extending. If we ever run out of oil, we can use nitrogen or hydrogen to run our cars. This world is truly abundant.

There’s an incredible amount of money too, and it’s constantly circulating. The biggest reason people can’t become wealthy is that they don’t teach each other and don’t listen to others. But these 10 disciples of mine listened diligently to what I taught them. Others kept saying I was strange when they heard me speak. But these 10 people listened.

Now, these 10 people are going to various places and teaching each other with all their hearts. If you don’t teach, your mind will stagnate. When you teach, new wisdom enters. The more you listen, the clearer your heart becomes.

So, what are the people here? People who teach what they know and say thank you when someone teaches them. People who can take a step with their left foot after their right. You can’t be happy if you stand still. You have to walk toward happiness. That’s why, because a solitary journey can be lonely, I’m really happy to have so many companions. Thank you very much.
